We are a church that loves Chorlton and one place we enjoy frequenting is, The Beagle! The Beagle is a fantastic little pub with great beer and awesome New York Style pizza. Other than yummy pizza one of the first things that I think of when I think about the Beagle is friendship. I have spent numerous meals at, The Beagle, sharing a pizza and laughing with friends, discussing life’s big questions, and getting to know new people. The welcoming environment of this pub lends itself to making connections with the people around you. Not to mention that the pizza reminds me of home. In a new home that I love more than any place I’ve lived before it is still a comfort to find food that reminds me of home in Orlando, Florida and something about, Nell’s pizza, reminds me of that.

What is it about food that draws people together? Most of my close friendships have been created around food. There is a communion that happens when you’re sitting across the table from a couple of people asking questions or sharing stories that just isn’t created in other places. Throughout his ministry Jesus sought to eat with people. It was a common occurrence for Jesus to tell someone that he wanted to connect with that he’d be eating food at theirs that evening. Before Jesus went to be crucified, he spent time eating with his closest friends. Jesus shared the Passover with his disciples before he went to die. The Passover was a meal of mighty significance a meal he took when he wanted this cup, this calling, to pass over him. Jesus celebrated when Holy Spirit passed over the doors of those in Egypt who placed blood on their door frames to keep their first-born children safe from death and yet Jesus, God’s only son, would not be passed over. Not yet at least. He would go to the cross and die after that feast of the Passover and yet three days later he would arise from the dead fully restored.

It’s these profound moments that can be shared over food. In the comfort of a little pizza and some beer it’s easier to ask life’s big questions, laugh about that weird interaction your friend just had, or discuss the new tv show you’ve both been watching. We are a church that Loves Chorlton and we so enjoy The Beagle. A pub and a pizza shop! The Beagle hosts quiz nights and gathers friends from around Manchester. The Beagle is a hub for musicians. On any given week you can hear the songs of any number of musicians in south Manchester. It really is a place that welcomes creativity while simultaneously providing a space of comfort to its patrons. Next time you’re craving a little pizza and a chat with a close friend, The Beagle, is the place to be!
